The Jockey Club has long been thought to have been founded in 1750 – a year recognised by the club itself in its own records. Some claim it was created earlier, in the 1720s,  while others suggest it may have existed in the first decade of the century. 
The Jockey Club is your “home away from home” with well appointed suites , fully equipped kitchens, 24 hour resort desk, security, pool, health club and sauna. Complimentary services include: Winner Circle Lending Library (DVD’s, books, magazines and games), freshly popped popcorn and brewed coffee throughout the day, shopping shuttles to select outlet malls and grocery stores, Wi-Fi and four guest computers.
The Ruidoso Jockey Club has more than 400 members from across the country. Memberships are passed down through the generations and many members have fond family memories and traditions affiliated with the Ruidoso Jockey Club.
On the ground floor beneath the Jockey Club was the fashionable Grand Café. There, on 28 December 1895, a stylish crowd in the Salon Indien attended the public début of the Lumière brothers ' invention, the cinematograph .
The Jockey Club created the Thoroughbred Incentive Program (.) to encourage the retraining of Thoroughbreds into other disciplines upon completion of careers in racing or breeding.
